Blood oranges are super delicious, the flavour is generally rich, redolent of roses, pomegranates and raspberries, and the ruby colour of the juice exquisite. 

Popular as a juicing orange, the flesh is truly worthy of eating whole and if you have never eaten a winter salad of thinly sliced fennel, red onion and blood orange, then you, our dear citrus men friend, have not lived.

Blood oranges require a very Mediterranean style climate to perform at their best.

A hot cracking summer, with irrigation to the tree, and a freeze your toes winter. A cold, cold, really chilly, winter, this is going to give you fruit that lives up to your expectation.

If you live in a climate that is a bit more temperate or tropical then Blushing Red Cara Cara is your tree! It is a beauty – it’s not truly a blood orange, it’s a navel and referred to as pigmented orange. It’s super sweet and juicy with deep blushes of red and pink on the skin and in the flesh.  It is seedless and delightfully easy to peel. 

Ippolito blood orange is a favourite here at citrus men, it’s a true blood orange with very few to no seeds and is renowned for its extraordinary delicious flavour in the flesh and juice, it has deep red colouration and large size fruit. It’s a winner and very popular, with orchardists and home gardeners. 

Winter is the season of the orange, the chill of season sweetening the juices and bringing in the bright vivid colouration. We do always encourage you to leave your fruit on the tree as it will store best on the tree, only getting sweeter and juicier. Citrus does not ripen further when it is picked.
